From Leadbelly’s “The Titanic,” to Blind Willie Johnson’s “God Moves on the Water,” to Bob Dylan’s much more contemporary “Tempest,” the famous sunken ship is an irresistible subject. The tragedy has been immortalized in song numerous times over the 110 years since the ship’s sinking. Songs have been a major part of the cultural experience and remembrance of the Titanic. It’s a story of hubris (“The boat is unsinkable,” said Philip Franklin, vice president of White Star Line in 1912), but it’s also a story of sacrifice and heroism ( Major Archibald Butt, for example, and countless others died helping others survive). Almost immediately, the story captured the attention of people around the world. The sinking of The RMS Titanic is, without a doubt, one of the defining events of the 20th century. Like, how can Jerry, a moderately successful comedian, afford an Upper West Side apartment? Even in the '90s something like that in that area would cost somewhere around $2,560 a month. That's showbiz! And, of course, there are a number of other jumps in logic we must simply accept. An apartment that has to be weirdly shaped in order to accommodate said studio audience and the angles of the cameras.

One could just suspend disbelief and just enjoy the apartment for what it is-a set for a TV show filmed in front of a live studio audience. What is happening? What's the deal with Jerry's apartment? But, given that the front door is at an angle, the hallway couldn't possibly extend to the right from his front door. There are a few exterior shots that show the length of the hallway, none of which I can locate right now. And, by the logic of the show, when looking out of Jerry's front door, there is a wall to the left and the hallway extends to the right. We know there is an apartment directly across from Jerry (Kramer's). Notice how the door is at an angle pointed at the kitchen. And, because we live in hell, some monster on Reddit decided to point out that not only does the apartment not exist, but it couldn't physically exist by all known natural laws of science.īe warned.
